A Cellar Door with Beer and Bite
In what has been described as "the most authentic and enjoyable wine experience in the Vale" is the "ekhidna" and "Paper Eagle" cellar door and kitchen ... and be prepared for some pleasant surprises.
Irrepressible, ever laughing, talented winemaker owner Matt Rechner is almost always on hand answering questions, offering advice and fussing over his visitors. His many achievements includes a trophy for Australia's Best Shiraz.
This cellar door not only offers tastings of Matt's excellent handcrafted wines but adds tastings of sensational handmade beers including his unique highly sought after "ekhidna Ginger Beer".
Completing the taste experience is the "ekhidna kitchen", full of talent, turning out beautiful tapas and a la carte meals. Ekhidna Kitchen has an enviable high reputation amongst locals, which is a sure sign of a consistent quality offering.

Ekhidna Winery
Our winery is located amongst a tranquil rural setting in wattle flat about 30 mins south of McLaren vale. The winery has been designed for our unique winemaking techniques, to allow for the ‘cold soaking’ and ‘reduction’ processes which gives our wines their amazing intensity and softness. All of our wines are then stored in a careful selection of French and American Oak for a minimum of 24 months. We don’t use stainless steel tanks for storage only 100 percent oak barrels
